The best food for your teeth from your dentist in Hillsboro. It’s lunch time! It’s always fun to take a break and sit down for something yummy. You’ve probably heard that the food you eat can make your teeth healthy or unhealthy. The question is, which foods are good for your teeth and which are bad? Today, your dentist in Hillsboro at Dentists at Orenco for Kids is going to tell you 3 foods you should have ever day, as well as 3 foods you should only have every once in a while.

1. Every Day: Water

Did you know that your body is mostly made out of water? You need water to stay healthy and feel good at school or while playing. Your body uses water all of the time, so you should definitely drink water every day. Water also helps wash away the leftover food that is on your teeth that can lead to a toothache! Whenever you’re thirsty, drink some water.

1. Sometimes: Soda

Sodas are all high in sugar, and this can be very hard on your teeth. Sugar is one of the main causes of cavities, and you don’t want that! Sodas are also very acidic, which is another reason why they can be bad for your teeth. It’s alright to occasionally drink a soda, but definitely don’t do it every day.

2. Every Day: Strawberries

You like your teeth to be nice and white, right? Strawberries are special and can help keep your teeth white just by eating them. They are always tasty too, so be sure to eat strawberries during snack-time at school or home.

2. Sometimes: Candy

Candy can taste so very good, but it can really hurt your teeth. Candy contains a lot of sugar, and this can easily lead to cavities if you have it all the time. Try to save candy for special occasions. Be sure to always eat it after you have had a full, healthy meal. Never eat candy when you are hungry.

3. Every Day: Dairy

Dairy includes food that has comes from cows, like cheese, milk and yogurt. These are high in calcium and help keep your teeth strong. Your teeth are partially made of calcium, so eating dairy foods regularly are an easy way to help keep them healthy for a long time.

3. Sometimes: Crackers

Crackers may taste salty, but they actually turn into sugar once they are in your mouth. They can also become quite mushy, which can make them hard for you to brush off later. Crackers are OK for a snack every once in a while, but definitely all the time.
